Oil leaking from a faulty nut at the oil tank.

PROJECT: Oil Spill remediation Services – oil leaking from a faulty nut at the oil tank. The insured was notified by their neighbour who had contacted Environmental Health to investigate a smell of oil at their property. Environmental Health noted a small seep from a nut at the insured’s oil tank and advised the insured to get this repaired. The insured’s plumber repaired the issue with the seeping nut. The insured had not encountered oil odours at their property and were not aware they had a leak. LOCATION: Carrickfergus, Co. Antrim DURATION: 5 Months DAMAGE CAUSED Internal oil odours and elevated PID reading in the house, notably in the kitchen/dining area. Impact in the concrete floor sections in the dining area. Impact to insulation at the heating pipes. Impact to concrete at the boiler location. Oil contamination encountered in soils and fill material beneath and surrounding the oil tank. Oil contamination encountered in soils and fill material beneath and surrounding the external boiler near the north wall of the main dwelling. VERDE'S REMEDIATION PROGRAMME EMERGENCY WORKS: Set up of a temporary oil feedline on the heating system. ENABLING WORKS: Removal of patio slabs surrounding the external boiler unit and along north boundary. Disconnection and removal of the oil tank and boiler unit. Breakout and removal of existing concrete oil tank base. Breakout and removal of concrete in the vicinity of boiler unit. Partial breakout of the steps directly outside the dining room and kitchen. REMEDIAL WORKS Excavation of contaminated soil and fill material from area surrounding the boiler, the vicinity of the oil tank and along north boundary. Controlled treatment of residual contamination in the impacted areas using a combination of in-situ chemical and biological treatments. A final sampling exercise was undertaken to examine soil quality at the previously affected areas. REINSTATEMENT WORKIS Reinstatement of soil and fill materials to ground level. Reinstatement of new concrete oil tank base in compliance with OFTEC guidelines. Reinstatement of the oil tank and boiler in compliance with building/fire regulations and OFTEC guidelines. TESTIMONIAL Considering how stressful the situation was in with the oil spill in my garden, the Verde team made the experience tolerable and they were always friendly and upbeat.
